I grew up in a small East Texas town in the United States with a population of about 3,000 people. My passion for the arts is what made me want to study cinema at university. It was at a film festival in Dallas that I first worked with children, showing them educational films and leading discussions about the films with primary age children. It was during this experience that I learned I enjoyed working with children and helping spark their curiosity. That is when I decided I wanted to teach children.
Arriving in Hong Kong in 2010, I began this journey of being an educator and I have loved every moment of it. I’ve worked at a popular Hong Kong playgroup and kindergarten, teaching the infant (6-12 months) and toddler (12-28 months) age groups. It is rewarding to see their personalities grow and see their curiosities develop. Seeing the children learn and understand the value of curiosity, become more independent and be little investigators, creative and confident is something that is so vital at this age. Learning is a lifelong process.
Working at Fairchild Junior Academy and learning and educating through the Reggio Emilia Approach is a thrilling new chapter in my life. I look forward to getting to know your children, help them learn and explore, and get to know the parents and caregivers. Communication between parents and teachers is important for a child’s development and growth. I welcome you to come talk with me should you have any questions, it would be a pleasure.
