It’s been my great fortune to have been involved in the field of Education since 1982. The focus of my career has been Early Years Education. I studied in Canada to receive my Bachelor of Education degree and Early Childhood Services diploma and earned my Masters of Education from Plymouth State University in the USA.
I have worked in various settings in Canada, Shanghai and Hong Kong. I’ve enjoyed many different roles including classroom and learning support teacher as well as leadership roles as Literacy Coordinator, Vice Principal, Preschool Director and Learning Services Coordinator. The 12 years operating two private preschools in Canada was a great learning experience. I also worked as a founding member of the Literacy Connection Association of Alberta, planning programs for preschoolers and their parents. These experiences led me to join Fairchild in 2015 and help the Fung family establish Fairchild Junior Academy in 2016 and Fairchild Kindergarten in 2017.
We worked to get FJA & FK up and running, offering experiences for children influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. We believe that children are capable, competent learners. Our educators build upon a child’s current knowledge offering an environment that encourages curiosity, imagination and inquiry to develop critical thinking skills. We recognize that each child is on their own unique learning journey and hope to inspire life-long learners who are happy, well-adjusted individuals.
Respect, security and significance have formed the basis for my interactions with children, families and educators throughout the years. It’s a distinct pleasure to work with Fairchild staff on professional development and mentor our leadership team. I treasure the African proverb, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ which means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. At Fairchild, we aspire to this!
