Originally from the land of bagpipes and haggis (Scotland, of course), I made my way to the bustling streets of Hong Kong in 2007, thinking I'd stick around for just a year. Spoiler alert: I fell in love with the city! I started off with my major in Electronics and Computer Engineering in my hands, landed me a job at a fancy tech company. There, I juggled mainframe computers like a circus performer, handling software backups and installations while jet-setting around Asia and soaking up all the cultural flavours.
My passion for teaching became increasingly evident, leading me to realise that I wanted to pursue a full-time career in education. After gaining experience through part-time tutoring, I transitioned into teaching at international kindergartens, where I implemented an inquiry-based curriculum. Encouraged by the support of friends and family, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education (PGDE) in June 2016.
Over the past decade, I have worked with kindergarten students, gaining valuable insights into their cognitive, emotional, and social development. This experience has enabled me to develop a profound understanding of young children and has deepened my appreciation for the vital connections between children, parents, and educators. In the realm of inquiry-based learning, the focus is on actively engaging students and facilitating their progression from moments of realisation to more profound questions of "What?" and "Why?".
In 2018, I decided to elevate my academic pursuits and enrolled in a Master's program in STEM Education at the University of Hong Kong. Now, I'm on a mission to inspire young minds to explore learning in all its quirky forms and even adapted methods in teaching Early Years STEM. I even earned a Certification Course for Kindergarten Principals in 2021 to further my understanding of school management. My ultimate goal? To keep fostering curiosity in my students so they can tackle real-world challenges with confidence and creativity—because the future needs more problem-solvers, and I'm here to help them shine!
